Precision craftsmanship with a feel for the water:

Fins by Günter Lorch

For several decades, Günter Lorch has been crafting slalom and weed fins – with the eye of a passionate windsurfer and the calm precision of true craftsmanship.

#fins

All fins are custom-made. Materials and dimensions upon request.

Slalom

For maximum speed and course stability.

Slalom fins give the board lift, control, and acceleration – ideal for regattas and fast runs on beam and broad reach courses.

Features

  • Speed & acceleration
  • Course stability even in high wind
  • Individually tuned

Weed / Seagrass

For shallow waters or seagrass fields.

Thanks to the backward rake, the fin glides freely without drag from seagrass – while maintaining control and early planing.

Features:

  • Shallow water performance
  • No seagrass catching
  • Early planing even in shallow depth

Note: Exact specifications are defined together.

#development

NoLo fins have been developed and continuously improved over many years. Each shape is based on precise CNC milling data – profiles are calculated along the entire length with absolute accuracy.

A key step was the implementation of an idea by Dr.-Ing. Klaus Nordmann:
The lateral forces occurring during windsurfing are redirected into an asymmetric profile change through a special orientation and layering of carbon fibers.

This means:

  • Under lateral load, the pressure side flattens and the suction side becomes rounder (more convex).
  • The profile remains stable despite low overall thickness – even under very high lateral forces.
  • Flow separation occurs much later than with symmetric profiles of equal thickness.

The result:
More efficiency, less drag in proportion to the maximum possible lateral force – exactly what a competition fin must deliver.

#nolo 3

Race fin up to 80 cm

The NoLo 3 was one of the first designs to prove itself in competition. With a profile thickness of 8.6% and lengths up to 80 cm, it offers outstanding stability, early planing, and smooth ride. It was created from the first CNC-milled molds and – like all NoLo fins – is manufactured using advanced prepreg construction.

#nolo 4

Slalom fins up to 48 cm

The first successful competition fin.
The NoLo 4 was the first truly high-performance race fin from Günter’s workshop. With a profile thickness of 8.75% and lengths up to 48 cm, it set a new benchmark at the time: stable, fast, and durable.
Its success proved that carbon, compared to G10, is significantly more fatigue-resistant and was the right path forward in fin development.

#nolo 5

Slalom fins up to 54 cm

With the NoLo 5, the fin series was consistently advanced.
A profile thickness of 8.9% and lengths up to 54 cm make it a versatile slalom fin with even more lift and smooth ride.
Especially in regatta use, it proved itself as a powerful all-rounder.

#nolo 6

Slalom fins up to 54 cm

The NoLo 6 is the latest stage of development.
With a profile thickness of 9.1%, it is the most powerful NoLo fin, allowing maximum control at high speed.
Its construction allows the flex to be individually tuned – from stiff to dynamic.

#manufacturing

  • Milled from high-strength aluminum alloy
  • Blades built with prepreg construction, cured at 120 °C
  • Membrane vacuum press: intermediate pressing after every 4 layers at approx. 0.95 bar

Result: highly precise, durable fins with a uniform laminate structure.

How your fin is made:

  1. Consultation on board, spot & riding style
  2. Define profile & outline
  3. Prepare laminate structure & core
  4. Laminating, curing, finishing work
  5. Fine sanding, edge work, quality check

Materials:
Carbon fibers combined with premium resin systems – optimized for speed and durability.

#günter

Windsurfer, tinkerer, craftsman – since the early 1990s, Günter has been building equipment for the sport he loves. First boards, later fins.
As a former Danish champion in speed surfing, he knows what matters when it comes to speed and control. This experience goes into every single fin.

With the eye of a board shaper and the patience of true craftsmanship, each fin becomes a unique piece – not from a catalog, but born from decades on the water and in the workshop.

Philosophy

Each piece is unique.
Precision down to the last detail.
Perfect tuning instead of coincidence.

#history

In 1986, Günter registered his business. At first, he built windsurf boards for private customers. When Andy Laufer turned professional, Günter mainly crafted boards for regatta surfers on Team Germany.

When conventional G10 fins soon developed hairline cracks at the base, Günter decided to build slalom fins from carbon – much more durable and with greater flex variety. Together with Andreas Reese, the first carbon fins were created.

Later, Andy also used them in competition – and during the DWC regattas, a new, fast rider appeared: Gunnar Asmussen, who tested Lorch boards and fins from Günter’s workshop.

This was the beginning of NoLo Fins: first laughed at, then proven in hard use – until even the pros said:
“Now they are truly competitive!”

#teamriders

- NoLo on the water -

Our fins are not just theory and workshop work – they prove themselves where it really counts: on the water, in training, and in competition.

Tjorve Studt

Young talent with speed ambitions, trusting NoLo in training and regattas.

Marlon Laufer (with Günter Lorch, left)

The youngest NoLo team rider, already having fun on the water. Small on land, but big on the board.

Thomas Moldenhauer GER-215

Experienced speed windsurfer, relying on precise flex and maximum durability.

Andy Laufer GER-93

Former pro and one of the first to race successfully with NoLo carbon fins.

Gunnar Asmussen GER-2

Multiple German champion, speed specialist, and connected with NoLo for many years.
